About us

Trading Post History

In September 1998 Steve and Sue purchased the Old Filling Station site at Lopenhead. The Old Filling Station had been derelict for over 8 years and was sorely in need of some love and attention.

"Our roots are from farming/horticultural backgrounds and we were both keen to grow organically, enhancing & improving our local environment.

With very little capital we enthusiastically set about the 'creation' of the Trading Post with emphasis on using recycled materials and local craftsmen.

We started by planting border hedges, not only to give the plot some shelter, but also to encourage the flora and fauna and within 10 months had prepared the 5 acres of land bringing it up to Soil Association organic standards.

We soon started work on the renovation of the shop, and then, with very little pizzazz opened our doors in June 1999. Initially stocked with just a small amount of our own and local produce, within 3 months we had a loyal customer base and over 25 people signed up to our box scheme.

In 2006 we designed and built a timber framed house so that Steve could continue to live on site looking after the crops & the menagerie of pigs, sheep & chickens.

Over the last eleven years we have gone from strength to strength, expanding our selection of home grown fruit and veg and increasing our product ranges.

Our knowledgeable and friendly staff will always greet you with a smile & are always on hand to help you select ingredients or suggest recipes.

We have expanded into the 'recycled' old church hall situated behind our existing shop. With our new professional kitchen we will now be able to produce our own preserves, cakes and homemade takeaways..."
